DP Engineering Students Show Products at Industry Confab

Recently, DPEA students attended a four-day conference in Los Angeles, where they showcased a variety of games and prototypes. The DPEA students exhibited their creations alongside the products of industry leaders who use SOLIDWORKS 3D design software.

The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy at Dos Pueblos High School is a four-year integrated course of study in physics, computer science, art, and
engineering design.

DPEA Program Dubbed a ‘School of the Future’

In conjunction with the NOVA documentary, DPEA Founder and Director Amir Abo-Shaeer and former DPEA student Madison Pickett were invited to the 2nd Annual White House Next Generation High School Summit, held on September 12 in Washington, D.C. 
Abo-Shaeer joined NOVA producers on a panel about classroom innovations. He also spoke in sessions about project- and design-based education in the United States. The all-day event highlighted students, educators, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs who are reinventing the high school experience to better empower students to seize opportunities in today's economy and to prepare students for success in college and career. The US Department of Education and White House staff were among the participants.

This month, DPEA Executive Director Rebecca Summers caught up with two alumni--Emily Williams and Erika Eskenazi--who are finding success as engineers, one in New York City and another in Austin, Texas.

Last spring, DPEA seniors took the 2015 Carousel of Physics to the Bay Area Makers Fair. There, they talked with many people, including interviewers from, which strives to inspire innovative learning environments by showcasing them on their web series.

Mr. Shaeer Speaks at Education Conference

Our DPEA Director spoke about the positive impacts of adding Art to a STEM curriculum to create an integrated STEAM curriculum. He shared how the DPEA's projects draw upon a variety of disciplines and give students the opportunity to develop authentic products. Amir spoke with many individuals about their programs and shared wisdom about how to innovate within the public school system in California. He also had the opportunity to give advice to college students who wanted to know how to gain more technical experience as they develop original products.
